Planning your first Walt Disney World vacation can feel overwhelming. Between choosing a resort, booking dining reservations, purchasing Lightning Lane, and packing for your trip, it's easy to wonder...
"When am I supposed to do all of this?"
But this is where I come in. You don't have to figure it out alone.
One of the biggest benefits of working with a Disney Destination specialist (LIKE ME!) is having someone to keep you on track. I provide my clients with a personalized planning timeline so nothing gets missed—and no last-minute stress gets in the way of the magic. And best of all..my services are FREE when you book with me. Seriously, it doesn't cost you any extra. In fact, I tend to find ways to SAVE my clients money!
I've created a simple overview of the planning process to help you get started. Don't want to handle the planning on your own? Fill out my form HERE and we will start building your vacation together!

Why Planning Ahead Matters
Unlike many vacations, Disney rewards guests who plan ahead. Popular resorts, dining reservations, and special experiences can book quickly, especially during busy travel seasons.
Planning early gives you:
More resort choices
Better dining availability
More time to budget
Less stress leading up to your vacation
A smoother, more enjoyable park experience
Step 1: Choose Your Travel Dates
The first step is deciding when you want to visit.
When choosing your dates, consider:
Crowd levels
Weather
School schedules
Holidays
Special events
Your family's vacation goals
The best time to visit is different for every family, which is why I help clients choose dates that fit their priorities—not just the calendar. Find my recommended 2027 travel dates along with best times to visit HERE.
Step 2: Book Your Disney Resort
Once you've selected your travel dates, it's time to reserve your Disney Resort.
Booking early often gives you:
The best room availability
More resort choices
Better chances of taking advantage of future promotions (we can apply these even after you book!)
More time to make payments before your trip
My Resort Selection Tips
Choose a resort based on:
Your budget
Transportation preferences
Family size
Pool and recreation options
Proximity to your favorite parks
I've broken down the different resort options HERE.
Step 3: Start Thinking About Dining
One of the most exciting parts of planning is deciding where you'll eat!
Before dining reservations open, it's helpful to:
Make a list of must-do restaurants
Decide if character dining is important to your family (including which characters to meet!)
Choose any special celebration meals
Think about your daily park schedule
Having a plan in place before reservations become available gives you the best chance of getting your top choices. I've broken down the many dining options HERE.
Step 4: Reserve Dining & Special Experiences
Dining and Special Experiences can be booked 60 days from your arrival! Some Disney experiences are incredibly popular and can fill quickly.
These may include:
Character dining
Signature restaurants
Enchanting Extras
Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique
Droid Depot
Savi's Workshop
Other limited-capacity experiences
My Tip
Know your priorities before your booking window opens so you're ready to reserve your family's must-do experiences.
Step 5: Plan Your Park Days
Now it's time to build your daily itinerary.
Think about:
Which park you'll visit each day
Which attractions are highest on your list
Rest breaks for young children
Fireworks or nighttime entertainment
Dining reservation locations
Having a flexible plan helps you enjoy more of the magic without feeling rushed.
Step 6: Learn About Lightning Lane
Lightning Lanes can be booked 7 days before arrival for Disney Resort guests. Before your vacation begins, you'll also want to decide whether Lightning Lane Multi Pass, Single Pass, or another option makes sense for your family. Do these words have you confused? Read my article that breaks down all things Skip-the-Line HERE.
The best strategy depends on:
Crowd levels
Ages of your children
Number of park days
Budget
Priority attractions
I help every client determine which option is worth purchasing—and which ones they can skip.
Step 7: Prepare for Travel
As your vacation gets closer, it's time for the final details.
Your Pre-Trip Checklist
Download the Disney app
Complete online check-in
Pack park essentials
Order MagicBands (if desired)
Confirm reservations
Review your daily plans
A little preparation before you leave home means more time enjoying the parks once you arrive.
